Purchase vs. Rental - What to do?

bridge

Left: A Family Waits for the Van - Right: Popular Pickup Points are Typically a Bridges

There are many outfitters on these rivers ... all will rent you a tube. This is really the easiest route. With your tube rental, they will supply you with of course a tube, with or without a bottom, an access point, and a pickup location and a bus ride back to your car. Some outfitters do allow personal equipment, and will charge you a small fee for parking; access and the bus ride back. Picking up at specific locations and at specific times. Keep an eye on the time; don't be late!

Having your own tube will save you some money in the long run and are typically a little more comfortable, but not always worth the effort ... these outfitters have it figured out.

Toobs can be purchased from Tire stores, and retail stores. The Academy's and Wal-mart's tend to carry a higher end models if you looking to avoid the old valve stem in the back problem. But look for these in the spring because they go fast! Available soon on Amatuber.com

The San Marcus River has a few points where a second vehicle could be parked near the river at an exit point and you can use your own tube and trucks to get you back and forth from exit points to entry point. Make sure you check with the locals, because in some cases just by parking on the wrong side of the bridge will get you a ticket or towed.

The Comal River is short enough that you can almost walk back to the start point so your own equipment is easily useable here also.
